While we received very good initial feedback from all FS9 users,
I think it's time to give you FSX guys a small update on where we are in regards to the FSX Version.

To put it short, we're making some very good progress with it.
We began beta testing the RJ100 two weeks ago and are tweaking all areas since then.

So why does an FSX version need so long to be released after FS9?
We could have just made an FS9 portover which works in FSX but we decided to do it
properly and make use of all the possibilities FSX offers.
That includes QWHDT (QualityWings High Definition Textures), Bump maps, Specular maps,
custom environment maps (reflections), custom landing lights and sound cones.

I'm sure you'll understand why we take the time when I show you the following screenshots
(directly out of FSX, no editing except resizing and logos):

Notice the nice bump mapping around the cargo compartment:

Needless to say anything I guess:

Custom landing light splashes...

...Taxi lights...

...and Runway Turnoff lights, which are now independently switchable:

Landing lights as seen from the VC:

And finally two more screenshots showing the new high definition textures in the VC. This one should be familiar for our facebook fans:

At this point big thanks to Jordi Blumberg from Enigmasim for assisting with texture and material improvements. Make sure you check out their 737 over at enigmasim.com!

As always, everything you see is not considered final and is still being worked on.

Do note that not ALL liveries will be available in QWHDT. We'll make sure to have the most
popular operators available and there will be a QWHDT Paintkit.
We can't do ALL of the planned 70 liveries in this high definition level though.

And finally, for those of you who'll ask for a release date...check out our Flight1 product page.
The estimated release dates over there are pretty realistic.
In the case of the FSX Version this means anytime between mid July and late August.

Thanks for watching and make sure to LIKE us on facebook.com/QualityWings

wow! can't wait :)
You mentioned above that the runway turnoff lights are now separate, could you let us in on any other improvements like that over the already excellent FS9 version?

Lars;

I understand the QWHDT/bump mapping etc. but I am curious whether or not the texture mapping for the FSX model will be the same?

In other words if a paint works in FS9 will it work in FSX (assuming I add the bump map?)

Thanks!

Yes it will work. However it might cause some weird looking effects with the FSX
self shadows as the FS9 paints have painted shadows on some areas.

My word that looks fantastic! Superb detailing all around, only thing I could nit-pick is that on the engine it seems to say 'Fire Acces' rather than 'Fire AccesS' although I concede that may be accurate for a Swiss aircraft?

Really can't wait for this, always been one of my favourite aircraft (unfortunately never flown on one) and one that I think has been crying out for a really good rendition in flight sim!

I wasn't 'getting like that' just stating a fact. Plus its not really that funny for the developers to be continuously asked for a release date when they've already given an answer.
Cheers.

Dear Developers,

The polygon-count will be raise in the VC on the FSX model or "just" the texture resolution will be in HD?
Congrats for your FS9 aircraft, it is one of the best!! I realy like to fly with it!! :)

We added some more details to the VC so the polygon count is slightly higher than the FS9Version.
At this point I'd like to stress that a high polycount is no indication of quality.
I very often see developers point out that their plane is highly detailed because of the polycount.
This is simply not true as a high polycount doesn't necessary mean that the polygones are efficiently used.
I can model a cube with 12 polygones. I can also model it with 200. It remains a cube ;)

Lars

Hello,
Being an amateur aircraft BritishAerospace society, I look forward too (as others ..) with the output of your FSX versions ... but I'm patient because I know that a long and full work, see the date delayed output is better than a product came out too soon ... and with problems, bugs or concerns which bring designers to re edit the patches fixes ....
So .. dears designers ... good developments, tests, and take the time you need ...
See you soon ...
Wink

I've got money ready too, but to be honest I'm very confused as to what I need to do Confused

I came pretty late to the Flight Sim party, so I never owned FS9 and know nothing about it. I started well after FSX came on the scene, and it's all I know.

Now as far as I can tell, I need to buy the FS9 version, so I can get the following 2 updates (stage 2, and stage 3). So how can I install an FS9 plane in FSX? Will it work in FSX? Or do I just wait until the FSX version is released and buy that one? Do you see what I mean, very confused LOL

It makes no difference to me, just tell me what to buy, and I'll buy it because I really want the 146 and all it's glory.

Tigerclaw, what you'll need to do is to buy the FSX version when it comes out, as I don't think you can use FS9 aircraft in FSX without a lot of tweaking and "tricks". FSX has a different folder structure than FS9, and aircraft aerodynamics and other stuff might be off as well.

However, you CAN buy the FS9 version now as a "pre-ordering", as the FSX versions will then come for free when released. But the FS9 version will be of no use to you in FSX, and as the manuals are freely available (http://qwsim.com/index.php/downloads?c=docs&m=757) there's really no gain in ordering now as opposed to when the FSX variant comes out.

I'm waiting for the FSX version myself. Hopefully it'll only be a matter of days before it's released. :-)
