Hi all,

As some of us are having some teething problems with the 787, I thought I'd try and find some really short hops flown by the 787 in the real world schedules that we can fly without the worry of wasting too much time if we get one of those dreaded CTDs!

I'm sure there are others out there, feel free to add any you can find!

Ethiopian Airlines ET863
Lusaka (LUN) to Harare (HRE)
Flight time: 50mins
Distance: 402km

Ethiopian Airlines ET915
Malabo (SSG) to Douala (DLA)
Flight time: 35mins
Distance: 116km

All Nippon Airways ANA19/ANA23
Tokyo Haneda (HND) to Osaka Itami (ITM)
Flight time: 1hr 05mins
Distance: 402km

Air France AFR1681
London Heathrow (LHR) to Paris Charles De Gaulle (CDG)
Flight time: 56mins
Distance: 348km

Nice one! Didn't know they were using it on that route :) I think they're due to start 787 flights to Madrid as well, if I read correctly?

These are some of the shortest routes over in Borneo on the 787-8. Though it happens more on seasonal scheduled.
Royal Brunei Airlines BI821+BI829
Bandar Seri Begawan (BWN) to Kota Kinabalu(BKI)
Flight time: 30mins
Distance: 168km

Royal Brunei Airlines BI822+BI826
Kota Kinabalu (BKI) to Bandar Seri Begawan (BWN)
Flight time: 30mins
Distance: 168km

Flight usually cruises at 10000-11000feet and they tanker fuel for both sectors with diversion and additional fuel reserves of 1hour 21 minute above. Meaning rough estimate of 400-500miles worth of fuel and endurance of 2hours and 30minutes+-.

Also subjected to traffic and weather condition, speed restriction below 10000feet is lifted and high speed descent of ias 280-300kts is approved by atc, the flight can be completed in 15minutes.

Mumbai - Ahmedabad - Mumbai

https://flightaware.com/live/flight/AIC31

Route: DOTIP W13N APANO
FL: ODD
Parking at Mumbai: Terminal 2 (V gates)

https://flightaware.com/live/flight/AIC30

Route:
Departing RWY 23 - BVR W13S BOFIN
Departing RWY 05 -
QQZ W12S SG
FL: ODD (for both routes)
Parking at Ahmedabad: Terminal 2 (32-34,36)

Fun fact: Air India used to operate B744 and B773 on this route before, and now flies A321 and B788. It is the 5th busiest Indian domestic sector. Ahmedabad is also a primary alternate for Mumbai except for code F aircraft.

good airport scenery to use for a flight on this route...

Mumbai (payware)

Ahmedabad (Freeware)

India night light (Payware)

Maybe it's a stupid question: is the higher capacity the only reason why many companies use the dreamliner for short haul routes? Or is there anything else?

Thanks to all in advance
